Forty-three-year-old Jeff Hurley first came to
One On One when his wife Rosann bought him a
membership for his birthday
"It was the best gift she ever gave me," says Jeff, who desperately
wanted to get back into shape and wasn't seeing any results working
out at home.
He wanted to lose the extra weight, most of which was centered on
his midsection. This additional weight was creating lower back pain,
making him lethargic and, even worse, slow on the ice! Jeff missed
lifting weights and was ready to get started with a trainer in a gym
environment. His original goal was to get back to 165 pounds; now
it's 160 pounds!
"My trainer, Aletha, kept me going," says Jeff. "The first month was
the hardest, but she showed me different variations of the same
exercises to keep each workout fresh."
Jeff appreciated Aletha's honest answers to his questions on training, new
exercises, and dietary supplements, such as energy drinks, protein bars, and
vitamins.
"She gave me healthy eating tips to prepare for hockey tournaments and
travelling, which I do a lot of for work," says Jeff, who considers it challenging
to find hotels with good workout equipment and healthy food.
Overall, his biggest challenges included learning how much to eat and what
to eat, and listening to his body. "I had to learn to truly rest when my body
told me it was tired."
Jeff currently does weights three days a week and cardio seven days a week
(four of which are high impact). His cardio includes three hockey games, one
day on the treadmill or mountain bike and 30- to 60-minute walks with their
dogs, every day!
"I have made exercise a priority," he says. "My company encourages physical
activity, as they recognize the long-term benefit of a healthy, energetic
workforce."
"My family and friends have noticed a huge difference in me, both physically
and in my attitude," says the more positive, energetic Jeff.
So far, Jeff has lost 15 pounds, more than three inches off his waist, and his
body fat has dropped from 21.9 per cent to 17.4 per cent.
"I would like to see more muscle definition and increase my muscle mass,"
says a determined Jeff. "I'd also like to see my abs!" |

Karla Laing knew something was wrong. “I have always been intuitive about my body but thought that the exhaustion I was feeling was a product of being a busy mother of a newborn and toddler.”
