Julia Ellis moved to Calgary from New Mexico. Her husband Mark was made an offer to relocate to Calgary on a Thursday, he accepted by Sunday and was at work in Calgary the following Tuesday. Mark relocated to work in the oil and gas business.

Julia, who is a relocation wizard, traveled back and forth from Calgary to New Mexico while house hunting. On January 1, 2002, she came to Calgary with her three children, ages eleven, twelve, and fourteen. Julia had previously worked with a personal trainer in New Mexico. After having three children and hitting 40 at the time, she made a conscious decision to defy age. She tried step aerobics and did the cardio route and did not see the kind of changes she wanted. She tried weight training and saw results. "I got addicted," Julia says. Pumping iron became an outlet for her. She was doing something for herself with the added benefit of relieving stress.

Once Julia got her family settled, she joined the neighborhood community center so that her children could swim and skate. She had eventually planned to work out in the center's gym, but the membership expired and she did not renew. She then hired a trainer through a local fitness club, but did not receive the type of encouragement or results that she wanted.

Julia then decided to hire one of the club trainers to work on a general fitness program. She did not achieve the type of sculpting she wanted. Julia had joined the club for a one year membership and did not use it. "I just did not feel like I belonged there," she says.

Julia happened to be getting her haircut when she stumbled upon One on One's location. She gave One on One a call, and as they say, the rest is history. She's been a faithful three times per week member since September of 2002.

"I had to put my fitness off for so long, it was a relief to get going," says Julia.

Knowing what she achieved in the past, it was frustrating to take baby steps and start over. To her surprise, she soon realized that muscle memory was at play, and she was not at square one for long.

Julia works out primarily with trainers Doug and Tad and occasionally David. She is happy that they are knowledgeable about safety while knowing what she wants to achieve. Julia's challenge is to do her cardio homework, i.e., treadmill, walking, etc. "Cardio is my biggest noose. I hate the cardio! I could do weights all day. I get so busy with the kids and volunteering, and I'm on the go all the time. It's difficult to block out cardio time, and I know that I would be that much leaner if I did it a little bit more."

Pumping iron has resulted in age defying tightness and muscle tone for Juila. She also sleeps better and handles the stress in her life better. Her session in the morning is just the right antidote when her kids have pushed her to the limit before school.

Julia admits that working out some days is the last thing she wants to do. She thinks that we can always find an excuse instead of making time to exercise, but she knows that for her, placing exercise first on the list makes everything else fall into place.

Pumping iron at One on One has become a family affair. Julia's fourteen year old son occasionally drops in for a home workout tune-up. She also gave her husband Mark the gift of fitness and signed him up to work out at One on One two times per week.

"We're all busy," comments Julia.

"Sometimes it's about putting a date on a calendar and making an appointment. Mark now sleeps better and is able to stay awake longer at night. Your facility has made a huge difference in our life. There isn't any way I can put a price on health and feeling good."
