When Ken King was given some personal training sessions he thought, "I don't need this. I'm perfectly fit".

Forty-eight-year-old Ken started working out because of an initiative started by the owners of Bridgecreek Development Corporation, Bill Bradley and Colin Becker. Making wellness a personal and a workplace priority, they wanted their employees to be healthy and fit. Ken was skeptical. At 215 pounds, he was jogging three miles, twice a week and thought he was doing just fine on his own. Despite his skepticism, Ken was made to come to One On One anyway.

The first time Ken did a superset with his trainer Codrut, he recalls feeling like he was going to pass out. He could not even do one push up after the initial super-set. Prior to working out with his trainer, he could bench press 140 pounds for one repetition. After some training time with Codrut he can easily press 200 pounds!

To his pleasant surprise, his body composition has changed dramatically. He has gone from a size 38 waist into a size 34, and over has lost 15 pounds in two months. Although he had not changed his eating habits, the increased level and amount of activity has definitely made a difference. As an added benefit, Ken's running times are now approaching what he used to do competitively. Two months ago he would run five miles in 45 minutes and is now running it in 35 minutes!

Ken is receiving so much positive feedback. "Last casual Friday, the ladies commented on my arms," said Ken proudly. His partner is thrilled. "She says every time she turns out the light, it feels like there was somebody different in bed. She likes how I feel." Ken's partner was inspired and has signed up and is taking a triathalon course on her own. They now run together once a week.

Ken's current workouts consist of running and speed work twice during the week and once on the week end. He weight trains on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and makes an effort to show up early to his sessions to get in an extra 15 to 20 minutes of cardio. He also does yoga twice a week at home.

He thanks his trainer Codrut who pushes him way further than he ever thought possible. When he does super-sets, Ken jokes that he is not light headed and down on all fours any more. "Just don't tell me the weight before I push it and I'm fine".

His goals are now an experiment between himself and Codrut to see what they can achieve. "Maybe, I will be able to bench press 230-250 pounds and run 10 kilometers in under 40 minutes," he suggests. He does not see any reason why this would be impossible. At one point, he thought he was too old and now, competitive running may be back on the horizon.

Improvements in his strength and overall fitness have turned back the years and also enhanced his golf game. Not only does he have greater control, he does not swing the club as wildly and putts much better. "This is much more than I thought it would ever be," says Ken. We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Way to go Ken!
