Third-place finisher of the 2004 Lean & Mean Challenge. Went from 26.09 per cent body fat to just 14.9 per cent, a remarkable feat that would have been a first-place winning performance in past competitions.

There was no third-place prize, so One On One put together a package of free workouts to reward Kim's success.

"I've always needed motivation, and I'm a competitive person," so the idea of a challenge held appeal, even though she had already set firm personal goals.

"It was a short period of time, as well. I wasn't looking at eight months or a year that I had to do this. It was twelve weeks, so it felt do-able," says Kim.

She also liked the Challenge's emphasis on reducing body fat while maintaining and building lean tissue - not on weight loss.

"For me the biggest change was portion sizes of what I ate," she says. Taking the One On One nutrition course was an eye-opener for Kim - a pasta serving is half a cup, not her usual three cups.

There was also an element of friendly competition that made the experience fun. "It was competitive, but you could also see people's results and that helped with my motivation as well."

Her biggest personal challenge was time - "finding the time to do it, and being tired near the end." It would have been so easy to put the feet up and take a little couch time.

Keeping it going for the full twelve weeks obviously has had its rewards. Now she can eat more while still maintaining her impressive results. "I wanted to know my body, and now I know the math behind [how it works] and can maintain for life."
