Why do you workout?
It makes me feel better. Retirement for me is not too far off, and we will be moving to Kimberley, B.C. I want to be fit so that I ski, hike, or do any other sports or activities and enjoy them.

How did you first get involved with exercising?
We have had a treadmill and elliptical machine, bike, rowing machines, and weights for some time, but I never had the commitment to work out consistently until I came to One On One. We have used them more in the past five months than in the last five years.

Why did you come to One On One?
I received your flyer in the mail and was impressed with what I read. I was tired of being overweight and uncomfortable in my clothes.

What did you find to be the most difficult aspect of changing your lifestyle?
Getting up at five a.m. to work out.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of working out for you?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing the results that I have achieved. I have tried almost every weight-loss plan. I lost weight many times but I always managed to find it again. I have never seen the results that I have now, which is from the weight training.

What results have you noticed?
I have lost 22 pounds, dropped several sizes, and feel good about how I look.

What does your spouse think about what you've been doing?
He loves the new me and is very proud of what I have accomplished. He still shakes his head when he sees me on the treadmill at five a.m.. He knows that I have never been a morning person and would rather be in bed. He wanted me to continue, so he gave me six months of training for my anniversary. He has personally benefitted from my workouts. He is eating better, working out with me, and has lost 15 pounds. It is a win-win situation for him.

What were your goals and how have they evolved?
My initial goal was to lose about 20 pounds. With a 12-week challenge put to me by trainer Aletha Desimone, I changed my goal to lose one pound per week and reduce my percentage of body fat to get me in the next range. I accomplished my goals and more.

How often do you work out? When do you do your cardio and weights?
I try to work out every morning for an hour before work because I find that works best for me, even though I am not a morning person. By the end of my work day I am tired and find it too easy to make excuses not to work out, and there always seems to be something that needs to be done instead. I come in to do weights twice a week, but if for some reason I can't be there I have a routine that Aletha wrote out for me that I do at home.

If you could tell someone who is working out and not seeing any results one positive thing, what would you tell them?
After about my first six weeks of working out, I saw some progress, but not what I wanted to see. Aletha kept me on track and challenged me by setting new goals with a deadline. Everyone loses weight and inches at a different rate, but if you continue to listen to your trainer about solid nutrition and exercise you will see results.

Other comments you would like to share:
This is the best thing that I have ever done for myself. As mothers, we tend to put ourselves last, but this time I decided it was time for me, and I am so glad that I did.

Linda's results:
Linda started her training at One On One on June 3. Her body fat was 29.01 per cent. On October 1, her body fat was 21.86 per cent.

Measurements: July 22: Waist- 34.75 inches, Hips- 41 inches

We’re weighing in, and it’s not always a good thing. When the scale says we haven’t lost weight, we cut calories.
