Meg's Story
Meg & Paul

Meg's Story
Meg went for a consultation at One On One in January of last year after reflecting on what she needed to do to start feeling better. A One On One newsletter in her mailbox was just the incentive that she needed. She had gradually gained weight over a period of a few years and had zero energy.

After checking out the One On One Web site, she made an appointment. "This could have been an intimidating experience for me, as I had little experience in a 'weight training' environment, but Sandra was so warm and supportive in our first meeting that I decided to 'bite the bullet' and go for it."

Once Meg made the commitment to "get fit," her biggest challenge initially was to change her eating habits. "I was hooked on sugar. After keeping a food journal (and reviewing it with Sandra), I finally realized that just 'cutting back' on sugar was not going to be enough to see much change in my weight."

"I needed to eliminate empty calories from my diet." Meg now makes wiser food choices, and as a result she definitely has more energy. "I have lost twelve pounds through a combination of doing cardio, weight training, and eating a well-balanced diet. My initial goal has been achieved."

"The cardio aspect of my workout regime is also a great stress-buster. I work part-time and have a school-aged child, so life is hectic. The only way I can get cardio time in every day is to walk. I walk on my lunch hour at work, outdoors if the weather permits and inside the building when it does not."

The final piece of getting fit for Meg is to become stronger. "I train with Aletha Nuttall twice a week, and if it were not for her patience and her expertise, I know that this is the part of getting fit that I would let slide."

Looking back on the past year, I realize how much better and stronger I feel, both mentally and physically. I have a lot more energy with which to enjoy life, and I want it to stay that way! Making that call to Sandra was one of the best things I have ever done for myself and for my family.

Paul's Story
Paul came to One On One two weeks after Meg started. He had been quite active in sports most of his life. Work and parenting commitments "squeezed" fitness out of his schedule. Paul's challenge was finding the time to exercise consistently.

He had made several earlier attempts to get back to exercising, but the routine would either be interrupted by different priorities or some minor injury, which seemed to become more common as he was aging and becoming less flexible. "I've always been good at keeping commitments and I figured if I had an appointment with a trainer I would make sure I kept it. I also thought the trainer might help ensure I avoid any injuries." So far, coming to One On One has worked on both counts.

Paul is most impressed by the knowledge of his trainer, Tad Desimone. "He knows the muscles of the body and a number of different exercises to isolate and build those muscles. Tad keeps varying the routine which keeps it from getting boring, and he is constantly but gradually making it tougher."

"It is pretty satisfying when you go from struggling with the first few reps on new exercise to nailing it, and eventually moving on to something new that tests you even more. I am a lot stronger and flexible than when I started, and although weight loss was not an initial goal I have dropped eight pounds."

"The program has allowed me to shift from being worried about my health to actively working on it, which feels great."
