After a series of training injuries, Tyrell came to One on One. Initially, Tyrell was skeptical because he thought that he would be learning things he already knew. "It grew on me," comments Tyrell. He was impressed by the knowledge and physical size of One on One's head trainer and drug free bodybuilder, Doug Bueckert. To his surprise, he learned better technique and no longer injured himself.

The Challenge:
In April, of this year, Tyrell decided to enter the One on One Lean and Mean Client Challenge. One on One challenged their clients to go flat out for 12 weeks and put all their energy into building their best body ever. The leanest client would receive a $1000 shopping spree to Southcentre mall.

Tyrell weight trains at One on One, one day a week and 2-3 times per week on his own. At home, Tyrell has a multi station, free weights and a stationary bike. Tyrell does not like cardio but for the challenge he realized that he would need to increase his cardio to get leaner. In addition to playing hockey recreationally, he increased his cardio to 3 days per week and walked outdoors or on a treadmill for up to 3 hours per session! Tyrell was willing to do whatever it took to get the job done.

The Results:
In roughly 4 months, Tyrell's weight went from 225 pounds to 205 pounds. His body fat dropped from 19.6 percent to 13.4 percent and his pants size dropped from a 38 to a size 34. Friends who haven't seen him for awhile are surprised by the changes in his appearance.

Accomplishments:
For losing the most body fat (6.2%), Tyrell won One on One's Lean and Mean challenge. "I really did not think I could win it," says Tyrell. He thought there were other's who would have done better.

Other Triumphs:
During the Lean and Mean challenge, Tyrell also learned how to eat better. Through discussions with his trainer Doug, Tyrell who ate "everything" realized that his portions were too big and so he ate a lot less. Tyrell who eats 6 meals per day, continued to ensure that they were balanced by eating protein, carbohydrates and watching his fat intake. Tyrell's primary beverage is water.

Tyrell says, " ...what I know now is anything is better than nothing- do something!"

Karla Laing knew something was wrong. “I have always been intuitive about my body but thought that the exhaustion I was feeling was a product of being a busy mother of a newborn and toddler.”
