| How you think, can impact the results you achieve. Here are some common mistakes we've seen over the years. |
| |
1. Women lifting light weights instead of a weight that truly changes them:
I meet women who have been lifting the same weights since day one of their exercise program without change. These women see a standstill in their progress and they don't know why. This is when I have to explain the key principle of weight training which is progressive resistance. In order to continue to get results, the exercise program must continue to be challenging. |
| |
2. Failing to take adequate recuperation time, even when you are sick:
Most people know that exercising is a healthy thing to do, but in order to optimize the results from your program; you need to have adequate downtime for your body to replenish and repair itself. In addition, when you are feeling "off," take the time and rest. You will find that when you resume your workout, you will be that much more effective. |
| |
3. Taking an all or nothing approach to fitness:
Sometimes, clients see only two extremes: either they exercise or they don't. Yet, this fails to include the reality that missing days from an exercise program is the reality for every one. Missing a workout or two should not signal the end of an exercise program. |
| |
4. Turning a blind eye to eating habits that detract from a fitness program:
For instance, a glass of wine can be an occasional indulgence, but when you drink several glasses per day, there is an excess of calories that will slow down any effort to get leaner. Habits that are not enhancing the goal should be addressed. |
| |
5. Relying on celebrity books or infomercials for "the" answer:
Sadly, there are no magic pills or powders out there. The public has been led to believe that following a sound eating plan isn't "sexy" enough, so there must be something wrong with this approach. The fact is that eating well and exercising will last a lifetime, unlike the diet books that come out with a new promise every month. |
| |
| Simply put, challenge yourself, take adequate rest when needed, be consistent, eat well and educate yourself. |
